as the majority of our customers are australian based, we have decided to move our server infrastructure to melbourne. this change will greatly improve the speed of your site within the continent, while having little or no impact on international access. the move will be happening this thursday evening, the 18th of december. we hope it will be a seamless transfer, however if you have something online that is critical, we can move your account individually at a later and more suitable date – please tell us as soon as possible. we will email again when the transfer is complete.

the time has come again to update our carbon offsetting program, and we are pleased to let you all know we’re still very committed to keeping our service environmentally friendly. this year 70 trees have been planted, offsetting the 18.62 tons of carbon that is released into the atmosphere, from the energy required to power the serversaurus servers. our pledge of donating 1% of our annual profit to 1% for the planet is still in action too.

we’re also very happy to announce that a new server is being added to the serversaurus family, to take some of the load of the existing infrastructure. this change will not affect any users with downtime.

the bad news is that we have to raise the price of our prehistoric plans from the 1st january 2008. but not by a lot.

the good news is that we’re introducing a new plan that will cover the needs of most minisaurus customers for the same price.

the great news is that everyone that signs up for a new plan, or renews their existing plan, by the 31st of december, goes into the draw to win an ipod nano. and if you refer a friend and they sign up, let us know and you’ll both get an extra entry in the draw.

in line with our prehistoric philosophy, it’s not the latest ipod, but a previous model, brand new with a full 12 month worldwide warranty. beautiful glossy black cover, colour display, 1gb of storage (240 songs), 14hr rechargeable battery, only 0.7cm thin! see a photo.

from the 1st of january 2008, our plans will be:

nanosaurus: 50mb space, 0.5gb data/month, $25 per year.
minisaurus: 100mb space, 1gb data/month, $35 per year.
midisaurus: 500mb space, 5gb data/month, $95 per year.
megasaurus: 1000mb space, 10gb data/month, $145 per year.
maxisaurus: 2500mb space, 25gb data/month, $245 per year.

hi wonderful customers!

today we have upgraded serversaurus to version 11 of cpanel, the software that runs the control panel of your website.

what does this mean for you? it means a pretty new control panel interface with lots of purty new icons! but seriously, even though aesthetics are important, there are quite a few new features. next time you log in to your control panel, you will see that the interface is hugely improved over the clunky old one, making managing your account much easier. there are also lots of new video tutorials to help you with just about anything you could want to do.

of course, if anything is not behaving as it should, don’t hesitate to contact us.

marty and nick.
the serversaurs.

p.s. for those who don’t know, nick will soon be heading out from the netherlands to sail across the bay of biscay, off the coast of france and spain, on his amazing single-handed sailing voyage back to oz. track his progress on bigoceans.com, and give him some support (he’ll take anything from moral support to monetary support, and needs plenty of both).
