serversaurus. g0t ethics?

February 16th, 2007

it’s been a while since our last post. but then again, we only post when we have something to say, and this time do we ever.

in light of the environmental impact our lives are taking on the planet, we think it’s high time business took some responsibility. we believe the focus should not just be on profiteering, but also about promoting ethical business and environmental concerns. words are both poetic and engaging, however action speaks volumes, and we’re ready to announce that we’ve shifted into gear: we don’t want to become extinct (again), so we’re offsetting our CO2 emissions, and donating 1% of our profits annually to preserve the natural environment.

does this mean prices are going up? no. does it mean you can drive your car more because your webhosting is neutral? no, and if you do, we’ll send a prehistoric carnivore to your home address.

so the nitty gritty details are, that we’ve had 49 trees planted by Greenfleet which in turn offsets the 12 tons of CO2 emissions our servers produce yearly. that’s equivalent to the yearly emissions of three average cars! we’ve also committed ourselves to One Percent for the Planet, an organisation rallying businesses to donate 1% of profits, to be distributed amongst non-profit organisations who work to ensure our species has a future, and avoids extinction.

so for all our existing customers, feel free to announce that your webhosting is carbon neutral and environmentally conscious. and if you want to (we dearly hope you do), consider also letting other people know about us, so we can continue to grow and put more of our funds into causes that make a difference.

and last but least, if you are a potential new customer, remember that webhosts are a dime a dozen, and then ask yourself whether those other eleven care enough to try and do something positive.

new prices page

April 26th, 2006

we’ve had requests from customers for prices for additional disk space and bandwidth. some sites need more of one, but not the other, so we decided to introduce prices for extras.

updates

March 21st, 2006

it’s been over a month since the last post, so maybe marty was right; maybe the serversaurus.com blog will diminish into a millennial post cycle… but not quite yet!

news
we’ve been sending out new invoices to people as they reach the end of their year-long hosting contracts, so i hope you’ve all noticed the pretty little .pdf’s we’ve been attaching for your records. marty has been coding & refining our customer management software in his spare time to make everything easier for us, and more informative for you.

we’ve also been making enquiries into getting some serversaurus.com tshirts made. nice australian made cotton tees with our usual serversaurus minima text on them. we’ll keep you updated. they’ll be given away to people on certain plans, and maybe a few random existing customers. lucky we have marty to keep me in check, as if it was my choice alone i’d be blowing this years profits on sending you all free ones :)

birthday

February 15th, 2006

marty likes to embellish time passing. no updates for a million years? c’mon! especially since we just had our 1 year anniversary.

no, not marty and i, i meant serversaurus. this is a blog about a webhost, not a couple from sydney.

so to celebrate we took our #1 client out for a japanese lunch (not very prehistoric i know.) … you may be wondering what makes daryl our #1 client. that’s a fair thing to wonder… is it because he calls our business a de-centralised synergetic web hosting provider, all while eating sushimi? yes possibly. but here at serversaurus.com we like to think it’s because he’s the only blogger we host who doesn’t threaten to update his blog more than once in a million years. in fact, his updates create bandwidth headaches and the http daemon to pack his bags and threaten to leave us. but in all seriousness, we love you daryl… just not in a sydney kind of way.

here is a picture of us taken by damian. he would have been our #2 customer, but he threatened to offer us his html services.

daryl to the left, marty in the middle… oh and that twelve year old on the right is me. happy birthday serversaurus. you rock.
